Serious fungal infections are an increasing global health threat. Treatment options remain limited, drug resistance is growing, and patients need antifungal therapies with new mechanisms of action.

A fungal-specific target

NikZ inhibits chitin synthesis. Chitin is an essential structural component of the fungal cell wall but is not found in humans. This distinctive mechanism offers the potential for antifungal activity without overlapping the targets of established systemic antifungal therapies.

Clinically advanced, with Phase 2 as the next step

NikZ has completed Phase 1 clinical safety studies in humans. MZT is preparing the program for Phase 2 development, with Valley Fever providing a focused clinical and regulatory path toward a potentially broader antifungal franchise.

Valley Fever and Beyond

Our development strategy begins with coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever), an important endemic fungal disease with substantial unmet need. NikZ may also have therapeutic relevance against other serious fungal pathogens, including Candida and Aspergillus, supporting its potential development across a broader range of serious fungal infections.

Building on the Valley Fever program

NikZ has a substantial history of development in Valley Fever. MZT is building on that foundation as we advance the program toward its next stage of clinical development.
